Long Island Wineries on NorthCork

NorthCork was created to help you plan a wine tour through the vineyards of Long Island's North Fork. I grew up in the area and have had a lot of friends ask me for recommendations over the last few years... but there are over 30 wineries to choose from, each with its own personality. So, I created a place where people could share their experiences and help others find fun wineries and great wine.

Peconic Bay Winery
Stellar by digver on 11/15/2009
After living in Northern California for a decade; I was incredulous at first about the potential for great wine on the North Fork in general. Yet after visiting Peconic Bay once, that has all changed. The staff is generous, friendly and gracious which is the polar opposite of my experiences in Napa. The property is very palatial with fantastic vineyard views from the deck of the tasting room, but, walking each row with a glass was something really special. I took to the Riesling which was quite 'correct' as a very structured glass of wine screaming for local seafood, but, the big surprise were the Nautique wines which for every day drinking offered a great price to quality ratio. It feels like there is so much to say and we were there when there wasn't a tasting or event. However, that patio is ready for a very good time...tons of friends surrounded by great music, wine and cheese. Peconic Bay Winery is a small slice of heaven and a must if you are interested in great wine and great times.
Vineyard 48
by Medina23 on 11/09/2009
If you are looking for BAD wine, Vineyard 48 is a definite stop. I agree with most of the opinions about the owner. Totally rude and unprofessional. Do yourself a favor enjoy your day by skipping Vineyard 48.
Pugliese Vineyards
Beautiful by artteacher on 10/07/2009
The day was beautiful, the wine tasted good, and the scenery was beautiful. Nothing like sitting by a pond filled with koi fish, sipping wine, and watching children enjoy the turtles and the fish in the pond. I would reccommend this to a famiy with children. They are occupied, and you can sit back relax, and sip some good wine.
Laurel Lake Vineyards
Impressed! by gagie24 on 08/30/2009
I called all of the wineries that could host a party of 34 people that could accomodate a private tasting and private tables. Laurel Lake was by far the most accomodating, and even offered live music, which many did not. We had the whole deck practically to ourselves and they came to us for the wine tasting so we didn't have to wait at the bar. Everyone enjoyed the Riesling(sp?) and purchased many bottles. I was impressed with how easy going they were to deal with and how cheap the tastings were compared to other wineries. Personally, I thought it was beautiful!
Shinn Estate Vineyards
am I a customer? wow so rude by meg on 08/20/2009
I have spent my summers in Mattituck since I was a child and have seen the birth of the North Fork wine country. I love Oregon Road and was thrilled when Shinn Estates opened with their bio dynamic farming and nice wine. This past weekend, I hosted a birthday party for myself-- and choose Shinn Estates to showcase Long Island wineries to my guests. We were about 25 people in all, many arriving on bikes. Our spirits were deflated when greeted by the owner Barbara-- although we were a big group we are low maintenance (wanting to put down some blankets and buy many bottles of wine and have a cheese tasting organized by one of the guests)-- I would have called ahead for a reservation if we wanted anything special or a tour. I could have easily explained this to the owner if she had greeted us with anything other than despise that we were visiting her winery. I understand that wineries don't want large buses of bacholorette parties converging on their space, but we were a group of demographically awesome, respectful, customers arriving on vintage bikes for heaven sake! When finally settled on the grass behind the parking lot, we were given only 2 glasses per bottle of wine we purchased- not even welcoming as we gave over our money $$$. The Wild Boar Doe is a good wine, but I would recommend buying it at a wine shop-- and skip the rude awkwardness that is Shinn. and I think their NYC restaurant is quite a disappointment too! I will not go back!
Castello Di Borghese Vineyards
The Best! by alanbkahn on 08/06/2009
You can visit the rest, but not only is this the oldest vineyard on Long Island, but it is by far the best.
Jamesport Vineyards
Wonderful as Always! by Mandy12 on 07/26/2009
We visited Jamesport Vineyards yesterday for the first time since last summer. Once again we were not disappointed! Not only is the wine delicious, the atmosphere is extremely friendly. We had lunch at the Jamesport Manor Inn then visited Martha Clara (great atmosphere, wine not so great)...then our driver made a BIG mistake and pulled into CLOVIS...we figured we would stop for a quick taste before landing at Jamesport. There were 4 adults and two children. Apparently the owner (CLOVIS) had a big problem with the fact we hadn't made an appointment for our limo. Um, we were the ONLY people in the tasting room at the time, so honestly why make a stink. Guess she thinks she is recession proof and her attitude is OK because her wine is so terrific...WRONG! We left after insisting we get our money back and after I got to tell her that she was really a B(word) and she should get over herself. This place is extremely pretentious...PASS CLOVIS by and head to Jamesport Vineyard, the wine is better, the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming.

One of if not the best tasting room on Long Island. Very good quality wine , at a reasonable price. Has world class potential!!
Laurel Lake Vineyards
No Good by dclax18 on 06/19/2009
Wine is very poor , and atmosphere is just ok. There are much better places on the North Fork. Try Bedell or Macari.
Laurel Lake Vineyards
Must Stop by tguzf on 05/13/2009
I have been to many of the Vineyards on Long Island. This is a must stop on your wine tour. It is a very small place and not on the very fancy side but the wine speaks for it's self.....
