Transportation to the North Fork of Long Island

Here are a number of ways that you can get to the North Fork of Long Island. Remember that the North Fork is a slow, rural area and it's difficult to get around without a car. So, I recommend driving yourself (if you have that option) or renting a limo service.

Generate printer-friendly directions to each winery with just a couple clicks. If you don't hit any traffic, it's about a 2 hour drive from New York City.

Get a Limo

Here's a little guide for luxury transportation to the North Fork. Please note that most wineries require a reservation for buses and some don't allow them at all. If you choose a comprehensive tour below, they'll take care of that for you.

Take the Train

Catch the Long Island Railroad in Penn Station or at Atlantic Ave in Brooklyn. Take it to the Mattituck or Greenport stop. Round-trip fare from the New York City area is about $30 per person. Of course, then you have to arrange your own transportation when you get to the North Fork. It takes 2.5 hours.

Take the Bus

The Hampton Jitney is your best bet. Round-trip fare from the New York City area is $37 per person. Again, you'll have to arrange your own transportation once you get to the North Fork. It takes about 2.5 hours. I've actually heard good things about the Jitney but for the price, I'd recommend the train.

Take the Ferry

Those of you traveling from New England will probably want to take the Cross Sound Ferry to Orient Point. It costs $44 round trip for you and your car with $13 per person or $6 per child after that.
